Fortunata Farm is the result of a long-awaited vision for Trainer/Owner, Olivia Oney. She longed to create a place where people of all ages could enjoy horses in the fun, wholesome way Olivia did as a child. Growing up as a Columbus, GA native, Olivia started riding with local trainer, Nancy Abney. Abney herself, and her Hunter’s Run farm greatly influenced Olivia by giving her a strong, correct background in riding and horsemanship. Upon moving to Midland Foxhounds in Midland, GA, Olivia took part in Pony Club and started to spend days at the barn soaking up the surrounding eventing and fox hunting activities. Shortly after, the Abneys moved to Midland where Olivia served as a working student; teaching lessons, riding school ponies, feeding, and cleaning stalls. Olivia continued riding, showing, and learning under Nancy’s guidance until her retirement in 2015. Throughout high school, Olivia and her own Bring on the Rain, (Noah) finished with top ribbons at USEF Pony Finals, GHJA Finals, and on the local horse show circuit. Olivia went on to compete on Middle Georgia Equestrian Team (IEA) with Jennifer Mastronardi in Byron, GA. While competing on the IEA circuit, Olivia became an individual National Finals rider both years, finishing Reserve Champion in 2016. In 2017, Olivia became the first graduate in Columbus High School history to sign an athletic scholarship for equestrian sports. Olivia attended Mississippi College and rode on their IHSA Team at Providence Hill Farm before returning home to pursue riding professionally. From there she worked with many professionals and businesses including but not limited to, Patricia Morissette, Scott Keller, Jennifer Mastronardi, Victoria Free, and Peace Stables. In 2021, she worked as a trainer for Horse Club Miami in Miami, FL teaching children and adults of all ages and levels. After surviving a near deadly car accident in 2021, she moved home to Columbus to recover. By the grace of God and a whole lot of luck, Olivia founded Fortunata Farm in 2022. The name “Fortunata” means a whole lot! Starting with the definition, this name derives derives from the Latin "Fortūna,” meaning "good luck.” Fortuna was the goddess of fortune and personification of luck in Roman religion. She might bring good luck or bad: she could be represented as veiled and blind, as in modern depictions of Justice, and came to represent life's capriciousness.
